Do ants do anything for pure pleasure?

I am sitting here in a shopping centre, observing my fellow humans. Everyone is going on about their day, buying thing: clothes, foos, entertainment. Then I started trying to compare us humans to ants, but the first thing I asked myself is, do ants do anything for pleasure? or are they just focused ...

Re: My queen has died after 3 months

I have two theories: 1. Not enough space: This is probably not the reason due to the fact that many many other videos show test tube setups with 50x more crowded than mine, but all the time the workers were trying to escape. and even when I opened it they just tried to get out. 2. Hungry. Every time...

My queen has died after 3 months

Today I checked the test tube, my queen was on her back not moving. A couple of ants looked like they were biting her? She had like 20-25 workers and a nice pile of brood, I fed them every 2 days with protein (bugs) and sugar (honey). I wonder why she died and the workers are so lively. Did I not fe...

Re: First workers, when should I migrate them from the test tube setup

Dont use dirt from outside. If you just want to use it as an out world. Put some store bought sand in n there and wet it down to get the dust off the top(makes them fall if you dont wet it at least once) then you're good to go. Do not worry about over feeding, people make too big of a deal about it...

Re: First workers, when should I migrate them from the test tube setup

Careful with the heating mat, you don’t want to place the heating mat under the entire test tube. Make sure the ants can get out of the test tube. A heating cable is better for test tubes. I’ll give you an example from my personal experience. I have a heating cable, I placed it over top of the test...

When to search for ants during colder times

In Melbourne Australia now it is coming into autumn so the temperatures are dropping. Gamergate.com.au says that Pheidole sp., Myrmecia Simillima and Meranoplus curvispina are flying. When will they fly since humid days won't occur? Also during February I spent many hours walking on footpaths in the...

Re: First workers, when should I migrate them from the test tube setup

I put a cricket leg in there which seems to be the same size as the whole colony in volume. They have brought it to the brood and are around it at all times. They are cold though (just bought a heating mat) and they are moving sluggishly and keeping together for the most part.

Re: First workers, when should I migrate them from the test tube setup

I wouldn’t wait to feed them. I’m sure they are hungry now. Especially since you have 10. They also need sugar water. Usually you would wait until 25-50 workers before moving them into a larger nest because ants don’t like big spaces. So when you make 10 ants move into a large space they won’t be c...

First workers, when should I migrate them from the test tube setup

Hi, my first workers have been scurrying around for 4-6 days now, gonna feed them a cricket leg soon as Mikey in one of his videos say not to feed them for a week after first workers appear. My question is should I migrate the setup due to having already 10 ish workers. When I read about other keepe...
