Re: Pheidole are finally eating.

They give Solenopsis queens similar attention, save they add one major to cut the exoskeleton. they seem to hate cricket. I will see a single worker eating....sometimes....very rarely. I always end up throwing it away. BUT THEY took 2 hours to destroy a wasp I gave them. They covered it in workers a...

Re: Which barrier is best for TINY TINY ants

The Brachymyrmex formed a furrow/trail through the baby powder (no alc) they hadn't moved, just scouts. fortunately I got my Fluon the same day, wiped it off, applied barrier, all the scouts keep falling in when they test the barrier on their return, so they are all returned. the Fluon.... is less e...

Nylanderia terricola? and other ID requests.

all Louisianians Flipped over a patch of moss while watching two Solenpsis invicta majors fighting, and found this little yellow ant. I had to get a specimen home. I had extreme difficulty going through the keys so I can be completely off. Three times I could not tell, and looked ahead to see which ...

Re: Forelius pruinosis Journal(my dream species)

What I have read online is that they fly from April to June. Sometimes I see a site claim April to July. In addition they apparently colonize in August in a process called budding, where a fertilized queen leaves an established colony and gathers a group of workers to help her form a new colony nea...

Re: Starting a Garden in a Formicarium

one of the ant youtubers suggested that growing up from seed might require too much care, and watering to have an active colony already inside. (i think it was mikey bustos, not sure) he suggested starting with fully grown plants. you could do what serpa design does for his vivariums he intends anim...

Re: ARK-LA-TN-MS-AL-GA-SC-NC nuptial flights

I dwell in an urban environment, so the vast majority of ants i find will be Solenopsis. I also have only been looking for two months now. But yes we are supposed to have at least two species of Lasius. as many as 10 species. I have yet to see one. the most recent survey i read has very large number...
