Hello, i had asked earlier in the week if formica ants are typically fully claustral, and got told they were. I then placed the queen into a test tube about 3 days ago and decided to check on her. In that case, just put her into a test tube set up and into the drawer for a week or two and see what happens?

yeah the queen i just caught has an injured back leg, but she moves just fine. hopefully it doesnt prevent the founding of a colony!

I just caught a formica queen, and I have a few questions.
1) are the semi or fully claustral?
2)is one queen enough to start a colony?

Ant Identification

Caught this little guy outside my apartment, in Reno NV. Not Even sure if its a queen, but its also not an ant species ive seen before in this area . Help?
