Re: Strange tetramorium behavior

I have never gone and caught a wild colony in this manner before. This is unique from what I have typically seen with this genus.

Re: Should I feed my Tetramorium queens?

I would wait until the first workers begin to appear. The queens have food reserves to get them through until the first batch of workers appear. When you plan on feeding them later on, I recommend feeding them recently killed or fresh feeder insects such as mealworms or crickets. From the other post...

Solenopsis nuptial flights in California

Hello ant keepers of California. Nuptial flights for Solenopsis (Fire ants) has begun. I found a colony in my neighborhood with virgin queens gearing up for the mating season. If anyone of you are looking to try and keep the genus, good luck hunting. If some of you find this genus rather "invasive" ...

Re: Containing Tetramorium Immigrans?

I am not certain regarding that. The barrier I have placed is just around the top of the enclosure. I think Mikey (AntsCanada person) has done it for his Solenopsis colony but I do not know if it works the same for Tetramorium.

This is just an idea of you intend to cover the aquarium u...

Re: Make my ants feel more at home?

I have heard Tetramorium can be polygynous but it is rare. The workers may end up attacking one of the queens later depending on how they view them. If you end up with a polygynous colony, you are one lucky fellow. As far as advice goes, you can move them to a semi larger nest if they are at 80 work...

Re: Containing Tetramorium Immigrans?

Tetramorium will be able to climb glass. As far as a barrier, either Vaseline or a mixture of baby powder and rubbing alcohol will work as a barrier. Be sure to apply a thick layer of the barrier as Tetramorium will look for any signs of weakness in the barrier and use that to venture outward. If yo...

Re: moving ants into ant tower formicarium

How big is the colony? They may not wish to move in to a larger space just yet.
