Camponotus moving brood out of nest

So my Camonotus colony is nesting in a test tube but they will occasionally take some of the brood out side of the nest and place it else where. They are in a test tube connected to an AC test tube portal and another empty test tube. Is this something to be concerned with or is this normal during th...

Re: Food suggestions for Tetramorium immigrans

Most protein sources are good. I feed crickets to my colony and they enjoy it. Tetramorium are not to picky with food, but be sure you ensure no food is contaminated. Tetramorium will also prefer pumpkin seeds or walnuts. Tetramorium love seeds in general. One of my first Tetramorium queens went cra...

Favorite foods for Camponotus?

I am in the early stages of raising a Camponotus colony and I am curious if this genus has particular preferences for protein or other foods that they go crazy for. I have crickets available, but I just wish to ask those who have more experience with this genus than I if they have noticed particular...

Re: California socal area nuptial flight schedule?

If this is your first, I would recommend looking for Tetramorium. I am not certain if it is still ongoing in SoCal but in general, look for queens in the early morning or late afternoon. I have had good luck finding a good number in those time frames. Solenopsis (fire ants) are currently going throu...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Welcome, can you post some pictures of the colony :D I have put a shareable link below. The colony is in the very early stages of development. I added a small out world for them with the AC test tube portal, hence the sand and bits of fake moss. If you are wondering, it is a dead cricket in the top...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Hello. I am a tad late for this but greetings. I am raising a Camponotus colony for the first time in my years of ant keeping. Not sure which species they are specifically but I had to guess based on my general area and characteristics.

Re: Strange Queen behaviour?

The queen may be taking a while to adjust. Try adding a small bit if honey in the set up, perhaps her energy is low.
