I'm excited to have potentially caught a species I've never had before. These two pics are the same queen. About 10mm long.

There are hairs on her chin if that helps. I just took a magnifier to her.

I think Formica literally just flew yesterday. Here in Vancouver, it was like a lotus swarm by Science World.

Lasius will fly at the end of July. I nabbed a few last year.

keep her unless you literally caught her at the nest entrance. i once had a queen go month without shedding her wings and she still had 2-3 workers. Thanks! That's shocking to hear, but good advice... I wasn't sure how far from the nest I had to go. I see some scattered workers once in a while in m...
