There are hairs on her chin if that helps. I just took a magnifier to her.

Re: Are nuptial flights over? (Pemberton, B.C.)

I think Formica literally just flew yesterday. Here in Vancouver, it was like a lotus swarm by Science World.

Lasius will fly at the end of July. I nabbed a few last year.

Re: Vancouver - Camponotus Flights

keep her unless you literally caught her at the nest entrance. i once had a queen go month without shedding her wings and she still had 2-3 workers. Thanks! That's shocking to hear, but good advice... I wasn't sure how far from the nest I had to go. I see some scattered workers once in a while in m...

It's like catching Pokemon, but IRL.

Just wander the tall grass, my friend!

Vancouver - Camponotus Flights

I just caught a winged Camponotus Queen and I'm trying to decide if I should let her fly or keep her. Feels like they just took to the air because I saw 3 within the same block. I know AntsCanada says, "Catch them even if they still have wings." but I feel bad if she hasn't mated yet... WHAT DO I DO...

Re: Ant Farmers in Vancouver, BC?

I just stumbled across this and was wondering if that sightings thread ever took off? I know it's 2 years later, but I just caught a Camponotus sp. in Richmond a couple blocks from the Ikea near the river. There's definitely a nest nearby because I've seen one or two workers. Does anyone know if tha...

Re: Prenolepis sp. in Vancouver

Thanks, AntsBC! I watched your videos - very interesting spider/ant interactions, haha! Thanks for the info on Prenolepis. It matches what I found online. I only question it because, on the GAN Project, someone up north past Whistler is selling a Prenolepis and it got me excited to find my own... Ex...

Prenolepis sp. in Vancouver

Has anyone ever seen any of the Winter Ants in the Greater Vancouver Area? (Canada)

Thanks in advance!
