Re: Feeding new colony.

Thanks for the replies. Thus far my ants haven't tried to eat any of the food provided, there is roughly 10 workers and a large pile of brood. How many workers do you need for them to start needing food?

Thanks, will definitely need to try that, nearly out of water, and still can't get them to move out.

Re: Feeding new colony.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I tried putting some beef and honey out in the out world area but the ants won't leave the test tube to forage, any ideas why? I may just get rid of the out world for now and try putting the food directly into the tube, if they don't eat I'm worried they'll all die.

Cotton turning black?

The cotton in my test tube is starting to go black or dark. Is this mold? It's just a queen with eggs right now so I don't know how I'd relocate her.

Couple question about Lasius Niger

Hi I have had a lasius niger for about a month now and noticed she had a small pile of brood, but when I looked a few days ago I didn't see them but she had put cotton everywhere. Could she have put cotton over the eggs? Also wanted to ask about hibernation, I won't have anywhere in the 5-10 degree ...
