Thanks for the replies. Thus far my ants haven't tried to eat any of the food provided, there is roughly 10 workers and a large pile of brood. How many workers do you need for them to start needing food?

Thanks, will definitely need to try that, nearly out of water, and still can't get them to move out.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I tried putting some beef and honey out in the out world area but the ants won't leave the test tube to forage, any ideas why? I may just get rid of the out world for now and try putting the food directly into the tube, if they don't eat I'm worried they'll all die.

Need some help with test tube
My queen and her first workers are still in the test tube, and I have connected them to a small container for food but none have come out yet, the test tube is nearly out of water and the cotton ball absorbing the water is full of black bacteria, I tried putting a light on the test tube to get them ...

Hi, my queens first workers are around now and I don't have any insects at the moment, would meats such as beef, chicken, pork etc work in small servings for protein? And for sugar, honey or chocolate?

The cotton in my test tube is starting to go black or dark. Is this mold? It's just a queen with eggs right now so I don't know how I'd relocate her.

Hi I have had a lasius niger for about a month now and noticed she had a small pile of brood, but when I looked a few days ago I didn't see them but she had put cotton everywhere. Could she have put cotton over the eggs? Also wanted to ask about hibernation, I won't have anywhere in the 5-10 degree ...
