I have killed many niantics with honey when the species produces very small workers we begin with by drowning. I'd use honey and water with the absolute smallest drop possible. Use the sharp end of a toothpick or something similar.

Maybe you have wild carpenter ants in the home and you are finding those. :? Just a thought. I have some camponotus ants and Vaseline works for me.

Oh, and for founding, put them in the dark and let them be other than for adding water on the cotton ball and the smallest drop off sugar water.

That's great. Post some pictures. Use Vaseline for a barrier. Put a cotton ball in there with each one and put a few drops of water on it to provide some moisture. Don't soak it though. You'll need to put some small holes in the top for air. Here is a setup that I used for nearly free. Use Vaseline ...
