Aphaenogaster sp.

Aphaenogaster are "fully" claustral -- the ones that aren't social parasites, at least.
Thank you Batspiderfish!!

I took another look at her and her gahster is bloated and she keeps licking it. Is that good?
Link does not work, but that IS a good sign! I believe cleaning gasters is a sign of recently have been mated!

Was this during the nuptial flight in your area? I'm trying to find dates as close to my area as possible.
Hi! Yes, this was during a nuptial flight in the area. Nuptial flight season has started here in the upper hemisphere so get to hunting! :)

Did she ever tidy up the little ones? Would like an update thanks.
Apologies for a late response, but no, she did not end up tidying up the eggs and I had kept her for another 2 weeks before releasing her

Worker ant identification

Hey guys! I caught this ant earlier today because I haven't seen one in my area similar to it. It seems to be of a semi-claustral species and I was curious if anyone could identify it so that I could research and have better chances of catching a queen in the near future. Here are some images. The w...

http://www.formiculture.com/topic/3252-much-ado-about-the-founding-of-lasius-temporary-social-parasites/ I actually did a little research on it when I saw your message. I dont yet have a colony of my own so I can't try to start a parasitic one, but it would have been an amazing experience. I releas...

Hey guys :) went on a walk today for a rain two days ago, and I hadnt seen any alates, no trace of either male or female, and just as I was going home after 2 hours, I spotted these guys on the side of the road. Both very large ants. This first one was actually struggling to walk and as you can see,...

The first queen is a Lasius social parasite queen, probably Lasius murphyi.

Queen two is Pheidole sp.

Queen three is Nylanderia sp.
Wow! Thank you so much batspiderfish!

Hello fellow antkeepers! There was a huge rainstorm yesterday and I decided to look for some ants and MAN! I found so many alates! Male.. ones, that were dead and being harvested as food from already established ant colonies  lol but, with male alates, comes female alates. Surprisingly, I found...
