Re: ARK-LA-TN-MS-AL-GA-SC-NC nuptial flights

Back aim Georgia here too, NE suburbs, Lawrenceville, I have seen increasing ant activity and I even found this orangish tomato red Queen Carpenter ant, she had literally just landed and not even taken her wings off yet.

Anyone know what carpenter ants are that color?

Keep anting

Re: Queen Ant Behaviour Question

Ah okay, thanks Batspiderfish. Yeah, I hope this colony is more successful than my current one.... I think my queen of my formica fusca has lost her mind and she has just abandoned her workers.... Oh well... Thats good to hear about your queen btw!!! That dixie cup is a cheap idea!!! I wonder if she...

Re: Rebellion?

Thanks for asking! No, she seems to still just sit atop this rock in the out world. Although her workers are finally beginning to tunnel into the sand, but she just sits up there... She isn't fleeing her workers anymore, she just occasionally bumps antenna with them. She is definitely isolating hers...

Queen Ant Behaviour Question

So my question is fairly odd... My Soleonopsis Invicta Queen is sitting in her small container. (No test tubes here, just clear film roll containers with paper towels and sugar water) She has already laid eggs after two days!!! However, I noticed she hasnt set them down anywhere, she just keeps them...

Re: Ant Watch Western Washington

I found 2 Soleonopsis Queens here in West Seattle down on Alki beach!!! Wings were gone and they were being swarmed by pavement ants, but I heroically charged in and protected the Queens!!! I now have them set up in the Royal Chambers, and as soon as they were put in they immediate began to relax an...

Re: Rebellion?

So, I checked up on them two days ago... She had gone back into hiding. This was all good and dandy, so i put an apple slice in and the workers devoured it as fast as possible. I also put some termites and some kind of cricket baby things... Maybe earwhig children? Anyways... They devoured those too...

S. Invicta, a beautiful warrior breed, has been reported to take anywhere from 5 weeks to 10 weeks. I know this species is known for exploding... EXPLODING colonial growth...

Re: Rebellion?

She has 20 workers... So I definitely think its an issue of checking up on her too much... She has brood and stopped laying eggs... And now she just hangs out in the outworld away from her workers... I definitely think this is my fault of impatience.... I can try to leave her alone for a week or two...
