Re: First time ant keeper worried about his queens

I've had issues with lasius niger before (I had 4 dead last year with no survivors and 1 dead this year with 4 survivors) the first 1 I suffocated, the second I stressed and the other 2 I kept to cold and starved. The one this year had a red mold on her but the others are fine. I would say keep them...

Re: Are Lasius neoniger pleometrotic? Are Crematogaster cerasi polygynous?

I know that lasius niger are monogenic and I'm not 100% sure about neoniger so I would say just keep queens seperate as even species that do accept multiple queens can have queens that don't like each other. I don't know about cerasi either

Re: Pavement antkeeping

I'm relatively new to antkeeping as well with a failed attempt last year and almost succeding this year (hopefully not much longer now) but I tend to research stuff for ages before trying them out so I know alot. I don't have Tetramorium where I live but I do know that the species I am trying to kee...

Re: To Feed or Not To Feed

I have 4 fully claustral queens (previously 5 but one died) and I haven't fed any of them. 3 of them currently have cocoons/pupa and seem to be doing well so I just recommend feeding only if you think it's needed

Killing Feeders

I'm debating keeping mealworms when my lasius niger queen has workers and can be moved into her permanant home and want to know what the best way to kill them is. Would freezing or boiling work and if so how would you freeze/boil them. Thanks

Re: Myrmica queen

If you do not give your ants a foraging space, then you are denying them the ability to clean up after themselves. All it has to be is a plastic container with a band of talcum. I would like to find out if a myrmica queen puts it in a test tube and is not given an outworld can lay eggs Yes they can...

Re: maybe

In some cases yes but for most cases the workers would kill the queen. If you have a small colony then you can put both them and the new queen in the fridge then introduce them that might help but there is still a chance the new queen would be killed.
