Re: Need help with camponotus diet

Nope. Ants are really good at knowing whats best for them. You cant over feed them, and as long as you provide both food sources they will be fine Ok, thank you! :) I always leave my Carpenters with syrup water and a bug or two that I change daily (or I wait until they lose interest). I also give m...

Re: Need help with camponotus diet

I'll list some food to try giving: Sugar sources: -Sugar water -Honey (Camponotus however usually prefer sugar water more) -Hummingbird nectar -Fruit (apples are used a lot as fruit) Protein sources: -Mealworms -Super worms -Crickets -Cockroaches These are all common foods that usually work for ant...

Re: Colony Not Growing

My concern is that they do not eat proteins because there are no longer any larvae to feed rather than there is no larvae to feed because of a lack of food. In other words, I am just afraid that there is something wrong with the eggs rather than the food. But I am willing to try anything, so I will ...

Re: Colony Not Growing

The room temperature oscillates between 25 c (77 f) and 27 c (81 f). I alternate the food between 2 crickets every other day and then one worm. I also make sure they always have honey. They do drink the honey but I have noticed that their enthusiasm for the crickets has lowered.

Colony Not Growing

Hello guys! I have a colony of Camponotus Noveboracensis with about 80 workers. However, for the past 3 weeks now, I have noticed that the queen kept laying eggs (maybe a hundred) but the colony has no larvae or pupae, just eggs. And they do not seem to be developing. In general, I would have said t...

Re: Attention: Could you help me by identifying the species of this queen?

One of my queen was captured in July 2017 and only started to lay eggs after coming out of hibernation this year, so don't give up hope! :)

Re: My Frameicarium Project

Did you get it done? If so, could we see it?

Also, one thing I was always afraid of, is the sand collapsing on the ants and burying them. Is that possible?

And what about the humidity? How do you regulate that?

Re: Feeding new colony.

Overall, I'd say trust your ants. They know what they need more than we do. If they don't go out, that means they don't need to. Offer them food and change it regularly to make sure it doesn't spoil. If they want it, they will take it. If they don't take it, that means they just don't want it. Try d...

Re: Spiders

I think the danger comes from pesticides and parasites they could carry. Even though they are alive, some insects/spiders can carry residues of pesticides on their skin. Boiling them would reduce the quality of the proteins for the ants but solve the problem of parasites. Not sure about the pesticid...
