A lot of people think that ants hibernate like mammals, in a sleep-like state. Hibernation to ants only means a lower metabolic rate assisted by low temperatures (they are ectotherms). They may or may not show any visible signs of hibernating.

Do messor barbarus sting?

Hi i am now going to rase a messor barbarus colony, but i don’t like stinging specis. I have heard that harvester ants are a number 3 on the insect sting pain index. Does that neans the messor barbarus or is it just the Pogonomyrmex badius?

No. The only parasitic Lasius have small gasters and large heads. Anything from the flavus group or niger group is not parasitic.
