Recommended ant species for beginners
Hello, my fellow ant enthusiasts! I am a beginner ant keeper, and I currently own a small colony of myrmecocystus mexicanus (i was not aware how hard these are to keep when i bought them), which I am looking to give away, and i am looking for a replacement species. I live in california, and i was wo...

Re: My honeypot ants don’t seem to be waking up from winter.
Ok. So, the reason my honeypots don’t want to move in is because the new setup has a ton of mold in it. I have no idea what to do, so I have decided to sell on the AntsCanada GAN project to someone who can take better care of them. I am still a beginner ant keeper, and I am thinking about gett...

Re: My honeypot ants don’t seem to be waking up from winter.
Luckily, yes, my queen is still alive. Their new setup does not let the ants dig, it has precarved caves, so i am trying to move the queen and what few workers I have left Into the new setup. I am 100 percent sure that they could not escape, as i checked it like 10 times for any escape routes. My id...

Re: My honeypot ants don’t seem to be waking up from winter.
Update: I tried what you said by leaving some honey for them and putting a cardboard box over them (and i live in southern california so it is already 70-80 degrees), and no honey was consumed. So today i checked my colony, but there were almost NO ADULT ANTS save a few repletes. There was a small a...

My honeypot ants don’t seem to be waking up from winter.
My colony of myrmecocystus mexicanus honeypot ants are not waking up from winter... any tips on how to wake them up? I have been informed that most colonies wake up from early to late February, and it is the middle of march now... should I be worried? Please reply.

I can’t get my honeypot ants to move in to a new setup!
I recently bought a new setup for my honeypots, (Myrmecocystus Mexicanus) and have attached a vinyl tube to the setup, joining it and the old one, AND I have shined a bright light on them for a few hours, yet not even one worker has gone into the setup. I live in a temperate area, so I don’t think I...

Please help! My honeypot ants (myrmecocystus mexicanus) are not eating!
I recently got my first colony of Myrmecocystus Mexicanus. They are around 1 month old with 30-50 workers, and I have been feeding them mealworms and honey, yet they have taken no interest. At first, they would drag it into their nest only to bring it back up a couple days later, but now they dont e...
