Please help identify this Scottish ant
I found this ant this morning after walking my dogs and noticed it was both slightly bigger and a different colour than all the other ants I’ve seen in the area. I live in north England and I only rembered that the flights were happening right after they stopped in my area. I didn't get any and it was very disappointing as I wanted to start the hobby this year...

To begin with get a common ant speicies from your area. This means if they die you can figure out what went wrong and try again. I live in the U.K. So I keep lasius niger as they are very common around where I live. It is a great way to decide your first colony.

Ok. I have cause some ants from my garden. I know they are lasius niger. After I put them in a small ant farm I was watching them run around and discover everything and I noticed one of the ants wasn't the same size as the rest. It was about 1 or 2 millimetres bigger than the others. Can you pls te...
