Re: general talk about our colonies
My camponotus novaeboracensis colony is coming along well, I caught the queen July 2017. They're up too about 30 worker and a couple majors, one of which has a white patch on her thorax. They started in a test tube which I connected to an out world, I've since switched them to a new tube with the he...

Re: Camponotus Formicarium
I didn't have much luck with meal worms, my camponotus wouldn't go near them. Cricket thighs are clean and easy, if the food isn't taken in the first couple days remove it and store her away...she's good for a couple months Small drop of honey on wax paper or whatever to make clean up easier. Good l...

Re: Camponotus Formicarium
Founding formicarium seems like a good idea, offer food and see if she settles.
Most queens that wouldn't settle and pulled died not long after.

Re: Queen ID Eastern Ontario
The workers and queen look like Temnothorax (acorn ant) or Leptothorax (no common name). The queen looks like Tetramorium, but the workers do not, so they couldn't be Tetramorium. And different species don't get along so well. And queens don't lay eggs of different species! Lol thank you Ants...

Re: Queen ID Eastern Ontario
Will do
So far they haven't done much, tending to the eggs and grooming each other. They're put away now and I'll check on them in a month.
Hoping to get an ID on the possible tetrimorium in this thread...bump

Re: Queen ID Eastern Ontario
why do you have queens together they are not polygenous Apparently there have been cases of polygenous colonies, doing my own little experiment. I have a feeling 2 of them may stop laying eggs and act as workers or they may be forced out once the colony reaches a certain size. http://www.myrmecos.n...
