That's so cool! I'll have to message you for tips and stuff if I get a successful colony!

I Got A Queen!
I'm sure of it this time! She just crawled across the pavement, wings and all. She had them off before I caught her but catch her I did! https://i.imgur.com/2WeKDSq.jpg https://i.imgur.com/FURsbsn.jpg Considering her shape and the fact I caught her today, I'm pretty sure she's a labor day ant, but I...

Re: Maybe a queen Maybe not a queen (please assist)
....I was afeared of that....
It was larger than every other ant around though, and it moved so slowly. I guess just need more practice!
Better try again after it rains the next time then.

Maybe a queen Maybe not a queen (please assist)
So I went queen hunting today just to try my luck and I found a couple large and ponderous ants that seemed... queenly. The only challenging part about this setup is that you have to make sure that the cotton stays wet by spraying directly on the cotton or by dropping some water dro...

Test Tube Alternatives
So I really want to go out and catch a queen this season! I know it's getting late but I just moved back and most of this summer has been settling in. It's supposed to rain today and tomorrow and I thought this would be an excellent time to go get some queens. However, I don't have any test tubes. I...

Hello from South Ontario!
Hello! I've finally moved back from the East Coast and since I don't intend to move outside of the province again so I figured it would be a good time to maybe start trying my hand at ant keeping! I studied science but my main focus was geology and not biology, that being said I've always had an int...
