Found a Colony, need advice

I'd love some advice, my moms boyfriend found a ton of what looks like carpenter ants hiding in insulation while he was doing construction. He felt like he grabbed them all and put them into a tote, however when i looked through them I couldn't find the Queen. What should I do with them if they have...

Hibernating my first time colony

I live in an apartment building in Ontario, and I am worried about the hibernation process. My two ant colonies reside on the balcony, because the gf doesn't want them in the apartment, is there any method to keep them alive during winter outside? Or am I going to have to buy some kind of minifridge?

Re: Feeding the new brood.

I have tons of woodlice and other insects out back, and, while im not sure its the best idea, I can get honey from a fast food place, I'd just like them to have a "safe" and varied diet if possible.

Feeding the new brood.

I watched the carpenter ant tutorial on youtube by AntsCanada, but it doesn't say how often or exactly what I should be feeding my queens and their first brood? I'd really appreciate some advice as they just recently hatched while i was out on the weekend! Thanks so much

Feeding new queens?

First, I'm very new at this and am perhaps a bit overly "motherly" and am just being a tard, but I feel the need to try and feed my my Queens even though they don't yet have their first workers mainly because they live in a semi-cool environment and I worry they are developing slower. Would it be al...

Ant Temperature?

I was wondering if there is a safe way to slow down a Queens egg laying process, I figured keeping them cool-ish may work, because I'm not able to move them into a larger set-up at the moment that a colony would require. Would doing that be in anyway dangerous to their health?

New ant keeper, needs adivice

I recently caught, what I believe are two carpenter queens, and one of them seems to be doing quite well and is laying some eggs. However, the second queen just kinda wanders around her tube. I had to sadly disturb them quite a bit, because I originally had them in different containers and had to mo...
