Re: Greetings from Boise, Idaho!
As far as tips, The VERY best thing you can do is watch all of AntsCanada's old tutorials. The new videos are...dramatic...and... some people really like that, but you will learn a TON from the old videos on their channel. Like almost everything you need to know. And then for the rest you come to t...

Re: Greetings from Boise, Idaho!

We mostly have tetramorium immigrans (pavement ants), but if you keep your eyes open you can spot some other species. You might still be able to find some flying now. My biggest tip ...

Re: What is your queen catching methodology?
Good your asking this! A lot of people don’t do this too well so... I usually go out any time of day. One major thing I watch out for is rain. When it starts to get humid or cloudy just watch out, and be prepared. I always try to keep a container of some kind with me as often as possible though just...

Re: Formicariums for expanding colonies
Depending on how you use the containers, they should work. I currently have a Camponotus colony in a "Tubs and Tubes" setup. If you don't know what it is, it's basically a tub outworld with test tubes lined up in a row. don't give tem too many test tubes, though, as they might start molding. I got ...

Re: Can I feed my Ants This?
I’m pretty sure it’ll be good to eat, you just have to see what kind of food your ants like. In general though, fresh food is better than frozen.

Formicariums for expanding colonies
Hello everyone, So this week I started pulling my ants out of hibernation, and a few of my colonies’ test tubes were running dry. After I got the first colony moved over I noticed that they seemed reluctant to all move in to the new tube like they had done in the past. They seemed to want to use the...

Re: Ant Anesthesia Research
Yea I think you have to get the timing just right for it to work. Probably not good for beginners.idahoantgirl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 9:20 pmyes... Please don't encourage the use of the freezer. New ant keepers will see it and decide to stick their ants in the freezer resulting in the death of their colonies.
