Hibernation

I am currently raising 2 colonies. One is a Formica sp. and the other is a tetramorium sp.. The Formica have stopped laying and refuse to forage for any food I put in their outworld so I'm assuming they are ready for hibernation. However, my tetramorium is still happily foraging for anything I put i...

Last batch of eggs?

My Formica colony has reached around 25ish workers since I got them this season and I haven't noticed any new eggs. There are 6 pupae left from one of the first few batches of eggs but no more eggs. ID

Size 6mm
Location mooresville Indiana (by wood garden frame.belive they live under it)

I know it's a Camponotus and the coloring looks exactly like a Camponotus Floridanus but the abdomen is different.

Do ants eat silk worms?

Found a colony of silk worms and I put them in this queen plastic container I was growing grass in and they now have hundreds of silk worms and a huge silk nest. Question is can I use these puppies for protein for my ants?? They're pretty much small caterpillars

Re: Egg Scattering !

Although it is a sign that she is infertile it is not guaranteed I've seen someone raise a colony that did the same thing in the founding stage and that same colony now has 20ish workers

Re: Weird white fuzz? What happened?

Same thing happened to me. I put my newly captured Camponotus sp. in a test tube and when I checked on her the next day she was covered in that white fungus and clinging to the wet cotton.
