Test tube cleaning
Hello everyone- Does anyone have good tips on cleaning used test tubes? Also, is there an easier way to remove the cotton from the test tubes? Some of mine are pushed so far back into the tube that I can't remove them. Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!! Jeff

Am I doing something wrong?
Hoping someone can shed some light on to these 2 issues. Recently I've noticed a lot more dead ants in my 3 colonies. One is a Formica that I caught a year ago, and the other 2 are camponotus that I caught this spring. Do you think they are the 1st workers dying at the end of the season? The Formica...

Re: Great new outworld!
Hello!! Thank you for sharing your great idea for an out world. I took your advice and went to 2 5below stores in my area. As of now I have 6 of those containers and am thinking of getting more. I figure I can attach a couple of these together at a time. I found tubing that plugs right in to the hol...

Feeding new colony

How often should I be feeding them and how much? I started with a small cricket every few days along with some h...

Rehydrating test tibe
Hello everyone- I have my ants overwintering in the refrigerator; I check them every few weeks, and today I noticed the water was very low in the test tube. How should I go about getting more water into the tube? Should I just set up a new test tube? Considering they shouldn't be bothered too much d...

Hibernating Formica
Hello all- This will be my 1st attempt at overwintering ants. I'm in NW Ohio. I believe it is a Formica species. I don't really have a place to put them, so I wrapped black tape around the front of the test tube and placed it on a north facing windowsill. The windows weren't installed correctly, so ...

Need help identifying queen
Can anyone help identify these ants? Caught 3 of them today (1st pic), and found this nest (2nd pic) with similar queens and smaller males coming out with wings; I live in northern Ohio. http://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q380/guerolindo72/IMG_1414_zpskgjnhhjf.jpg http://i349.photobucket.com/albums/...
