Found a small colony of ants with 2 queens after my day lifted a rock. I decided to keep the queens and 5-10 workers. I’ve had them for about 3 months and the colony is doing well but I’m starting to become curious what type of ants I actually have. I live in Folsom California and the ants were foun...

Re: What type of queen is this?
I did a little looking and I think it might be a Tetramorium caespitum queen.

What type of queen is this?
I found a queen ant in Sly Park, California under a rock in a wood filled habitat. The queen is approximately 6 mm. in length.

ant barrier for small ants
Here in California, there are many small ants like tapinoma sessile that I am keeping and they seem to be able to get through/over baby powder and rubbing alcohol. I need a cheap alternative barrier that will keep small ants in but I can't get insect-a-slip because it costs too much for me. Any ideas?

When do you think I should put the queen in hibernation because the place where I found it has a daily Low of around 30 degrees F.?
