Re: Formica ignoring food

BTW I've had people tell me since their establishe'd they probably need a foraging are and I plan to give them one once I get back home from school in a week but for now I feed them their test tube. I've heard people have success with that too. Could it be the need to forage? Or something else? Cuz ...

Formica ignoring food

Have two formica colonies of the same species that I caught. They both ate honey their first meal with me, but now one colony is not eating. I've feed fruit flies and cricket legs both but one colony loves it and digs in and the other barely touches it and are very skittish when food comes, freaking...

Re: Ants not accepting protein sources

Thanks thats good info! Ill make sure to freeze them then and avoid protein powder. Thanks. I actually was able to steal some of my friends petstore cricket supply for his rats. Just fed my ants some cricket leg. One colony is enjoying it and tearing into it. The other are alarmed and trying to tear...

Re: Outworld as a formicarium?

Well the grout is so they don't nest where I don't want them to nest and shouldn't mold or cause health problems. The soil or sand will be in the section I want them to nest, mainly up against the glass to view them.

Re: Outworld as a formicarium?

I'm gunnar try it with one of my personal F. pallidefulva queens. She doesn't have the numbers to move into a formicarium yet but I'm planning ahead. Mostly it's to save money on a formicarium and outworld. I think AntsCanada did it with one of the Solenopsis geminata satellite nests.

Outworld as a formicarium?

Can I house a colony in an outworld? I'm thinking of creating an outworld with grout and having a small formicarium sized thin section of area blocked off and then after the grout hardens fill that area with sand so that they can dig their own nest. That way I can view their nest against the glass a...

Ants not accepting protein sources

I also tried emergency protein fix I found online with sugar water and protein powder. I need them to survive the week and I...

Re: ID Queen East Lansing

I'm sorry  I just now researched what sp. means taxonomically. I'm going to assume my queen is Formica pallidefulva after all. Thanks for all the help! :D

How long should observe ants

I know I shouldnt bother my queens all that much and leave them be to be in peace and dark and not stress them out but my new formica queen and her workers seem to be very tolerant of light. It took forever for them to change tubing when I caught them, and when trying to get them away from the openi...
