Re: Utah Ant Keepers, Help Requested!

I find most of them around 3-5PM mainly because that's when I get off work. Yesterday had a bit of a breeze and I caught 5 queens! Today only 1 without a breeze. Temperature is about 75-80*F last few days. I usually have the best luck in the semi-shady areas and I always walk around my local park. N...

Fortunately I've found a second tetramorium queen today. I'll let you know here if both queens start laying.

Re: Newbie in ant keeping

Yes, they are.

Question: I caught a queen (wings torn off, middle leg missing) and I also caught a male (appears to be the same species as the queen (Tetramorium)). Is it ever a possibility to put them together to ensure that the queen is mated???

Re: Utah Ant Keepers, Help Requested!

For all of you experienced ant keepers, is there any hope for a queen ant without a middle leg?

I'm assuming I should keep her at about 75*F, yeah?

Re: Utah Ant Keepers, Help Requested!

Hey USGSPk, I'm in Logan, UT. I'm a beginner ant keeper this season. I've been keeping a lookout for months. Here we've had snowfall as of 2 weeks ago which I'm sure has jumbled nuptial flight for most species. Today I found a my first queen (tetramorium)! However, she's missing a middle leg and I'm...
