Re: Northern Ontario (Thunder Bay) Queens caught Aug 29

Seriously? She just doesn't seem big enough for camponotus Pennsylvanicus, because I've seen workers bigger than her. She is 1cm in length. Also the camponotus americanus queens I witnessed earlier in the year were half a centimeter bigger. I was really hoping for Formica aswell. Darn. Because my ol...

Northern Ontario (Thunder Bay) Queens caught Aug 29

Hello, I had an amazing ant day while walking through the residential area of the city of Thunder Bay. I caught 6 queens! :D They all seem to be the same species but I can't put my finger on what they are. I'm pretty sure they are some sort of Formica queen. They are all roughly 10mm in length. Caug...

Re: Possible early Canadian flight

Cool!
Is there any extra work involved taking care of an evicted queen?

Possible early Canadian flight

This is not an ID request, antweb makes it pretty easy to ID ants in this region. I went on a walk yesterday and came upon a queen ant. I'm fairly certain it is Formica Podzolica as she looks right, she is the right size, and there isn't a whole lot of variety of species where I live. (see image) Th...

Is Crayola air dry clay safe?

Hello! I'm brand new to ant keeping and have just ordered a starter kit from the AntsCanada website. I was wondering if when decorating the ants' outworld, can I use Crayola brand air dry clay? I don't want to line the floor with it, just for some props, like an offering table or a tiny city ruins. ...
