Are there any ant species that have nuptial flights past/around this time of year? I'm my area around grand junction at least, nuptial flight only happens once a year aroun...

Re: Natural formicarium

Make sure you research how to properly do a natural nest, you will have a lot more success of you incorporate layers in the ground like a drainage layer and such. But in terms of a digging medium i have had dirt that I dug up outside my house work, you just want to make sure it's clean and pesticide...

Definitely a queen, hard to tell species as I'm not from Singapore but I would guess a formica species or maybe camponotus? They most noticeable thing though is she still has wings so she might not be mated. I would keep her for about a week maybe 2. If she doesn't lay any eggs i would release her.

Put her in a test tube setup for sure if you haven't yet, that's where you take a test tube and fill it halfway with water than block it with a cotton ball than put they queen in and block her in with a cotton ball. Once she is inside one, take the test tube that she is in and put it in a dark warm ...

Re: New Formica Subsericea Queen (Supposedly)

Really for this species care is pretty typical for ants. The main thing I have noticed with them is they grow fairly quick for there size. Also they don't like for synthetic protein sources such as fish pellets. So be sure they get a lot of insects. Other than that they make for great pet ants!

Killing cockroaches for food

I have a Dubia cockroach colony that I used as feeders for my pets but as most of them go to a large reptile, I don't kill them first. So my question is, how would I kill them in a way that the ants could consume them easier? Sorry if this question has already been asked i just don't know.

Looks like Formica Subsericea to me. These ants given ample care so really well in captivity. I find them to show a lot more personality than species like Tetramorium and other smaller ants.
