Use sand instead of dirt. they will use it for many things, burying waste, absorbing and transporting moisture, and adding to there nest if they want. i add a little sand in all my outworlds, just to give the ants something to use and do.

Vaseline works better if you add olive oil to the surface of it after application.

Fluon works wonders on most species. Also it is the only thing ive found that doesn't leave an absolute mess around the rim of an outworld.

I got them a week before Christmas, I think they were ordered from "live ants enclosed" or something (they were unfortunately shipped over. It was a big surprise for me because I wanted to catch a Tetramorium as my starter but...
