In my opinion any camponotus sp. would work. They are not escape artist, there slow growing and are very big so it’s easy to get a good look at them! I have been any keeping for one year now and my first ant colony was camponotus, I still have them all of course and they are found very well. Great!...

I have found these two carpenter ant species that are local to Florida Camponotus floridanus aswell as Camponotus tortuganus do you recommend any of these two?

Want to start keeping ants
I live in Lakeland Florida and I want to start keeping ants but I want to know what's a good ant species I can find in Florida that's good for a beginner ant keeper and when the nuptial flight schedule is for that ant in particular and I will do my own research about it later on Thank you!!!
