Re: Nuptial Flights in Ipoh

Its October now. From August to December I haven't found any camponotus. Maybe they fly very late. Every time I finish anting and gone into my house again I will see big insects flying, bigger than pheidole parva. So maybe those are camponotus? Hopefully I can find camponotus. Thanks everyone.

Re: Clay all in one?

I found some article (wikiHow) saying that I can replace Plaster of Paris with 'a mixture of flour and water' or 'a mixture of water and white glue'. I have no flour right now but maybe I can try it out. Can some of you try it out to make a nest? I can't find any flour right now. If you do do the '...

Re: How to raise Carpenter Ants to large numbers

Were you heating them? What did you feed them? I don't have a heating mat or wire. I put them in my room, which can be quite warm as the normal temperature in Ipoh is 33-37 degrees Celsius. I fed them small insects I could find (grasshoppers, roaches, etc. I cannot have any mealworms) I fed them su...

Re: Need Queen and and workers ID, from Malaysia

If they are only fed protein once in a while they will get malnurished and the queen needs protein to lay eggs. Next time don't use beach sand as substrate and instead use a proper soil for them, I use coco peat but any kind of soil works, you also need to pack it down for them to dig their tunnels...

Re: Clay all in one?

Ok. I will try to find some clay. Can I use polystyrene? I tried taking a large piece of polystyrene and carving out chambers that are not that high. Then I will put them face down in the container and add clay to hold it. But is polystyrene a good material? I can't find AAC or Ytong or Plaster any...

Re: How to raise Carpenter Ants to large numbers

Hi everyone. Can anyone tell me how to raise Carpenter Ants from Malaysia (I live at Malaysia) past their first batch of workers? After the first batch of workers the queen stops laying eggs and the colony dies out after the queen refuses to eat. How do I prevent this? Were you heating them? What d...
