Cotton Balls Molding

Hey! I'm pretty new to ant keeping and am currently running into issues with my water test tubes. The cotton balls seem to always grow, and I'm not sure how to stop it from happening. Any tips?

Probably the worker died and they ate her.
Are you sure? Because usually, they put their dead in their graveyard, not eat them.
My small colonies always eat their dead, I assume for extra protein.
I figured it was for the protein, but I wasn't positive. Thank you for the response!!

Camponotus pennsylvanicus killed worker?

So, a few months ago, I caught 2 carpenter ant queens. They both now have a few workers. I just went to check up on colony #1, though, which had 10 workers, last I checked. Now, there are only 9 workers, and it seems that the missing ant is in pieces strewn across the test tube portal their test tub...

Re: Temnothorax curvispinosus carbohydrates?

Recently, I started keeping a colony of Temnothorax curvispinosus ants, and they don't seem interested in any of the carbs I've tried to give them. I've tried sugar water, honey, raw honey, a piece of a cherry, and a tiny bit of watermelon. None of them have been successful. The only thing they've ...

Re: Temnothorax curvispinosus (acorn ants)

I found out my tetromorium calridium(Same size as acorn ants, same look, but they don’t live in acorns and have different head shape) could get through AC plugs. They were all over! And they sting so…(Luckily for you, acorn ants are peaceful) Oh no!! Yeah, thankfully acorn ants are peaceful haha. S...

Re: Temnothorax curvispinosus (acorn ants)

UPDATE!! (5-24-2022) So, the ant nest was...not the best idea. I just went to check on my ants, and couldn't see very many of them wandering around in the outworld, so I looked around. That was when I noticed a worker checking out the nest! I thought: "Oh that's awesome! Maybe they're finally think...

Temnothorax curvispinosus (acorn ants)

This is my first colony of ants that I've kept, and also my first real post on the forum, so I'm sorry if it's somewhat ramble-y or all over the place! About a week ago, after a week or so of searching, I found a colony of acorn ants! I currently have them in a small 0.5 gallon outworld, with an att...
