Re: Pseudomyrmex Gracilis Queen?

Hey AC Family… I have been searching out a Pseudomyrmex Gracilis queen for about a month now, and recently setup a hollowed out twig on my front porch to try and lure a queen to start a founding chamber inside of it. Today I went out and saw a graceful twig ant (which I believe is a queen) carrying...

Re: Pseudomyrmex Gracilis Queen?

Does anyone have a Graceful Twig Ant queen? I’ve seen quite a few colonies around my house, but they are nestled in the trees, so I haven’t been able to get close enough. How did you obtain your queen? Also, I read that if these ants lose a queen, they can actually lay eggs and raise brood until a ...

Re: Pseudomyrmex Gracilis Queen?

It can be inaccurate, but the queens heads are a bit larger than workers, and, the queens vary in color based on area. Are you in Florida? Another great way to tell is queens usually have less orange in front of the black wing muscles(Florida only due to geographical variation) Also, if you think o...

Re: Pseudomyrmex Gracilis Queen?

I don’t know about raise their own queen… I do however, have some tips on how to catch a queen! The trouble people have is they can’t ID a queen. So do lots of research on what the queens look like, I have learned to recognize queens based on the heads. Behavior will not work on this species due to...

Re: Digging up a Pheidole Colony!

Has anyone ever successfully taken an ant colony from the wild and established it in captivity? I have a small pheidole ant colony in my backyard, and have been wanting to dig it up for about a week. I believe it is Pheidole obscurithorax, which is an introduced species in my area, so it would not ...

Re: How to Catch Camponotus Queen?

The light trap principle works because of uv light emitted by the light bulb. CFLs emit some uv light, but overall a proper uv emitting black light will give you the best results. This should help a ton http://www.formiculture.com/topic/5816-any-suggestions-for-a-black-light-to-attract-flying-ants-...

Best Temperatures for Solenopsis?

My home currently has temperatures of 70 degrees Fahrenheit. I have been keeping my Solenopsis test tube setups in the garage which has temps of 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the fledgling colonies are doing great. Should I buy AC heating cables to warm up the formicariums they will be moving into? ...
