It might not look moist, but it is. Plus, Camponotus likes it fairly dry.

Hello.I have a Camponotus ocreatus queen. I'm a beginner antkeeper and things are happening that I have no clue how to deal with. I got her from a antkeeper near me and she arrived with 5 nanitics. Thanks for correcting me SYUTEO, didn't even think of Myrmica. I would say a pretty small one, maybe 6in by 8in. Also make sure you have the teat tube in there too.

Hi, just a quick update to say that I checked on my ant today and I found 3 eggs!

That's great! Just know that Camponotus are slow growers (1 1/2 to 2 months egg to worker).

She could have died, and the queen and other worker could have eaten her. I don't think they would eat her alive.

How old is the colony? Are you giving them a sufficient sugar source? Did you buy them online? My guess would be that the workers are dying of old age. As long as the queen is laying eggs it should be ok.
