Re: Best nest for Pheidole ants?
Just wondering which of the starter nests that AntsCanada sells would be best for Pheidole ants? Thanks. Well first of all, you will need to raise the queen in a test tube setup. For their first home after that I would recommend a Tar Heal Ants Mini Hearth, it is not sold by AntsCanada, but they ar...

I think Tetramorium immigrans, as they eat almost anything, and are easy to care for. They also grow quickly, so beginners wont get bored.

Re: Queen ant arrived without much water -- New ant keeper
Hello, I recently bought a queen mini ruby ant for my son's 10th birthday (today!) and it arrived last night without much water in the water reservoir and some loose cotton in the chamber. It looks like there are some eggs in the loose cotton but I can't quite tell. Can't get pics to upload so here...

Re: New to the forum and the hobby
I would recommend Tetramorium immigrans as they don't hibernate and are easy to care for, but they are a bit small (2-3mm workers). You won't be able to just use perlite, you will need some soil, make sure you research making a terrarium. Also, you won't be able to put them into a terrarium right aw...

Re: Queen won't lay eggs and just sits.
I gave them some sugar water in a small tube and plugged it with cotton. They should be able to drink from the wet cotton. I also dropped in a baby roach I found. No pesticides. However, one worker ant has died from old age. Only three worker ants and one queen and 1 egg/larva left. I hope they wil...
