Re: A possible queen ant!

Yeah, but I thought she was a queen because she was alone but she was probably just foraging. Well if I see the same kind of ants then it will be confermed.

Re: Where are wing scars located on a queen?

So last night I saw a large ant in the kitchen and captured it in a test tube. I was trying to see if it had wing scars but I didn't see any so I suspected it was just a worker from a large species of ant. So was wondering where they are. I made a quick test tube set up but when I tried moving her ...

Re: How often do queens come out of their nests?

I don't think I will catch her as their colony is getting ready for nuptial flights. So if I want to capture a queen of that species I can just wait for a flight to happen.

Re: How often do queens come out of their nests?

I've found out that they have pupae without spun silk, a small piece of rock they were nesting under got moved and revealed some bigger larvae and some pupae.

Re: How often do queens come out of their nests?

I don't know, when I looked up the species on the wiki it said "Nests occur in open ground or in sites with a low profile vegetative ground cover." But their nest is where the driveway and the road street meet and they don't have any mounds. But they look similar to the ants in my front yard. The an...

Re: 2 more queens :)

Mabey that queen (the first queen) is the species Lasius americanus. But that's just a guess.
