I’m keeping the Crematogaster colony in a mini-nest set-up. The workers seem to avoid crossing the connectors, I’ve tried adding them for a test tube water attachment. I’d appreciate a very small nest, acorn sized, to start new colonies or for the smaller colonies which naturally nest in them.
I also think a vertical nest that mimicked dead twigs would be interesting.

I resorted to moving my Crematogaster colony with a paintbrush instead of dumping them. It wasn’t fun but I didn’t have more than a casualties. I’d tried removing the water source and they still refused to move into a new test tube they just chilled in the outworld.

I’m new to ant identification. Does anyone have dissecting microscope or magnifications recommendations to see the characters necessary to identify species?
