Re: OH-KY-IN-IL-MI Nuptial Flight Sightings

Caught something yesterday, too big to be Tetramorium...I'll admit I'm not too good at identifying ants I haven't seen before. Sadly she died soon after capture, pretty confident she wasn't a drone since she didn't have wings. It was near late afternoon in northern Illinois. I did see another dead i...

Caring for a Founding Camponotus Nearcticus

I've done a bit of research, but there wasn't that much info I could find on this species besides them being arboreal and having majors alongside regular workers. I've noticed that compared to other pictures of queens I've seen and my own other queens, she had a smaller thorax in comparison. Does th...

Re: Please ID! Naperville, IL USA

Thank you! I might ask around in a different section about general care for this girl. I think she has lain an egg though, she has been pulling some of the cotton as well. I'm looking forward to this species!

Please ID! Naperville, IL USA

Been a while since I've been here. I'm not entirely sure if this is a queen, but her abdomen looks too large to be a worker and her behavior reminds me of my other queens. 1. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/407301126287785989/586581167747235874/20190607_103128.jpg?width=503&height=670 https...

Re: Tapinoma sessile Journal!

Apologies, but yes the Tapinoma queen was infertile, she perished a little while after the last post. One of my pavement ant queens has since had around 8+ workers, the other I'm not sure as I put her in a more natural set-up. Regardless this journal is pretty much over. I might try catching tapinom...

Re: OH-KY-IN-IL-MI Nuptial Flight Sightings

Be warming up over here in Northern Illinois, along with my Tetramorium species being more active I'm gonna be looking for any potential queens after the rain showers this weekend.
Wish me luck! I wish the same for the rest of you!

Re: OH-KY-IN-IL-MI Nuptial Flight Sightings

Just now found 2 queens that I believe are Tetramorium caespitum, they were in my garage, but more might be flying in the area. Good luck!

Re: Tapinoma sessile Journal!

So far not much has changed, she lays eggs but none have seemed to grow into larva. I'll keep her here for a few more weeks, but I'm thinking of letting her go. Bright side is I found what I believe are 2 pavement ant queens in my garage. I knew there was a nest and nuptial flights in there because ...

Re: Tapinoma sessile Journal!

Another micro update, I was putting a little bit of honey for her to eat and noticed she moved the two eggs I thought she's abandoned. She moved them near her other eggs and now she has a nice little clump of them. Hopefully most if not all of them will make it, the nest seems to be consuming water ...

Re: Tapinoma sessile Journal!

Ok, so far no larva I can see. She seems to have abandoned the two eggs she was caring for, but after moving to a new spot she had lain 4 more. I don't know if the two she abandoned are dead or something, but I hope she cares for these enough for them to survive. I'll probably try to give her a bit ...
