Nothing has changed. They are devouring every bit of honey I give them. They don't seem to keen on meal worms or roaches but will inhale crickets.
No eggs yet.

Re: Camponotus Consobrinus
Quick question is the nest still there? I went back and tried to see what I could scavenge but it was well wrecked. I didn't even see a single sugar ant when trying to move to soil. Are they a multiple queen species? Perhapse they have moved? I believe I was INCREDIBLY lucky to save the queen. I pu...

Camponotus Consobrinus
Well I wasn't expecting to start a new colony till towards the end of the month but this was a peculiar situation. I was walking along the walking path near my home and saw 2 kids playing on the side. As I got close I realised they were terrorising an ant nest. I wasn't sure how to handle the situat...

Oh wow, what a read from start to finish. I've had to sub.
I just received a queen of this species and just trying to read and find out all I can.
Look forward to the new updates post winter.

Re: Camponotus or Iridomyrmex colony.
Worst news ever.
I checked on the queen ant and she was dead. I failed her.
I ordered the AC portal and test tubes packs that i was going to move her into. Too little too late.
Not the best experience for the first attempt at ant keeping. I guess I'll have the right gear for the 2nd attempt.

Re: Camponotus or Iridomyrmex colony.
Hope this link works.... So there absolutely no light when this draw is cold. I'm actually questioning the temperature in there. As the room is 18 - 20 degrees Celsius but i guess the draw could be cooler. Should I put a heat matt in there or maybe half under the container? She used to have drift wo...

Re: Camponotus or Iridomyrmex colony.
that seems like a correct time. I would cover the test tube/nest because it might be the stress that keeps her from laying eggs with her workers It is covered. The only time she is uncovered is when i put food in there. The other problem is; do i keep putting food in there? She is fully claustral r...

Re: Camponotus or Iridomyrmex colony.
Awesome! thank you. I will be updating every time something happens or if I need help/advice. I see you have 2 queens of the same species. Any tips etc? Well, they are pretty easy to care for, they grow fast, and are a very common species in Australia. At this stage, I would feed them with a cricke...

Re: Camponotus or Iridomyrmex colony.
Woah! I went on holiday for a couple weeks and when I got back there was a surprise waiting. I went away 4 weeks ago and at that point, there were no workers but a bunch of brood. I put some crushed meal worm in there just because I was going to be away for 2 weeks and the queen hadn't had anything ...
