Re: Myrmica Queen Alates waiting for nuptial flight. When will it happen?
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. In my area there is a lot of alates in the nests and there is a lot of Myrmica nests around me. It doesn't rain til the 7th here so I'll wait and see.

Re: Are Formica Aserva polygynous?
So a little update. I ended up putting her in the test tube with the other Formica Aserva Queen that has pupae and they are doing well. When they first came into contact, they did the little polygynous antenna ritual, which is what I see before they merge into a colony and work together. I've seen t...

Are Formica Aserva polygynous?
I found 2 Formica Aserva Queens. One today and one yesterday. The one I caught yesterday is doing good. I gave her some Formica pupae and she accepted them. I'm wondering if Formica Aserva are polygynous because I have no space for this Formica Aserva Queen and I also can't find anymore pupae. So I ...

Myrmica Queen Alates waiting for nuptial flight. When will it happen?
Hey, I found a myrmica nest with queen alates who haven't had their nuptial flights yet. They're under a log that coexists with a Formica colony. I wonder when they will have their nuptial flight. It hasn't rained for a little while now, and it won't rain for another week in Alaska. So do you think ...

Re: how I should remove ants from a log into a formicarium?
Well its too late now, I'm already at school so it's gonna take a bit til I get back. So what happens if you do? Does it just mold quicker? Or does it damage it somehow? Because I thought you could put sugar water in nestmates.

Re: how I should remove ants from a log into a formicarium?
Okay so here's what happened. I couldn't find any 15 watt heating cables at my local pet store, I also tore apart the log but didn't see a queen (which is fine cuz there was a lot of ants). Now there's bits and pieces of the log in the 6 feet long container that they're hiding under. The tubing I go...

Re: how I should remove ants from a log into a formicarium?
Okay that doesn't sound like a bad idea. I'll have to get one today then. How long do you think it'll take the ants? And if that doesn't work then I'll have to take it apart with a hammer but I'll need something to anchor the log.

how I should remove ants from a log into a formicarium?
There's this myrmica colony nesting in a 2 feet long log that's damp and somewhat easy to pull apart with a hammer. But is there a more efficient way of doing this? I currently have them in a tub with tubing connecting to a mini hearth XL (tarheelants). I also have a baby powder/rubbing alcohol barr...

Is there any ants having their nuptial flights in Alaska right now?
I'm looking for Formica neorufibarbis, Formica podzolica, lasius neoniger, myrmica Incompleta, and myrmica brevispinosa nuptial flights.
