1 is correct, if the cotton is not damp then how are the ants supposed to drink from it? Also it depends on species, for species that like humidity you can make the cotton all damp. For species that don't require high humidity, then you can make the test tube setup like in diagram 2. I'm assuming f...

I caught this queen in western washington where I'm from I need help identifying it. Also a side question is I just moved her into a test tube setup a couple minutes are and she's moving alot and seems alarmed, is this normal?

Can I keep my native Camponotus Pennsylvanicus outside covered by a tarp?

I wanna get a Camponotus Pennsylvanicus colony which are very common where I live, but my mom won't let me keep them inside once they get a formicarium and big things like that, is it safe to leave them outside? I'd cover them with a water proof tarp btw.
