Hibernating Nylanderia spp
So earlier this year I caught a Nylanderia spp queen, and she has thus far done well in founding a colony. If I understand correctly, they originally come from a more tropical area, but are an invasive species here in the Northeastern US. So, seeing as how hibernation season is more or less upon us,...

This ID request is a good bit late, admittedly, but I was out of town and had no access to the photos of the queen until I recently got back. Anyway! She was caught in mid-80 degree weather late afternoon in a small town area, and is about 9-10mm. https://imgur.com/a/ReBEi Apologies for the image qu...

Northeast US Nuptial flights
Hey all, I'm gearing up to begin capture of queens relatively soon, and was curious as to what I could expect and when. Hibernation questions
Hey there everyone. This year I decided to get into the ant-keeping game and, as luck would have it, I caught a Crematogaster sp (possibly cerasi or lineolata) queen a few weeks ago. Up until now, she hasn't laid any eggs, which hopefully means she's waiting until hibernation, which leads me to my q...

Re: Ant ID northern NJ
From what I've noticed in the pictures I've taken and from observing her, her gaster region has some hair on it, but the pronotum, and mesosoma in general, is mostly devoid of hair. This seems most noticeable if you click on the last picture in the imgur album.

The ant was caught September 20th, and is about 7-8mm in size. I'm fairly certain she's been confirmed as a C. cerasi, but I feel it wouldn't hurt too much to get a second opinion, if possible. Thanks in advance!
