Re: Advice for Camponotus Colony (Colony collapse?)

It can take them a week to wake up fully. If you forced them out of their old tubes they'll be messed up for a while as well. They should be fine. Give them time and food. Mine didn't start foraging for 3+ days Thank you for the reassurance. I think I may have taken them out a tad early since they ...

Advice for Camponotus Colony (Colony collapse?)

Hello AntsCanada, I wanted to ask you guys about my Camponotus Laevigatus colony. I recently just brought them out of hibernation because I saw some other colony movement around my house. I got them out of the old moldy test tubes and there was some casualties because some water leaked out and froze...

Re: Interesting problem, moving hibernating ants!

FYI I’m not an expert or anything..yet..! Lol Only relating personal advice or what I believe. Take from it what you’d like, if anything. I wouldn’t say it would cause damage as long as you don’t drastically change the temperature on them. Think of their natural environment. Just recently it was re...

Re: Interesting problem, moving hibernating ants!

Sweet, thank you for the suggestion. I think I might end up doing that. However, the other thing I'm worried about is putting them back into the fridge if they come out of the hibernation state, couldn't this cause significant damage to them going in and out of hibernation temperatures? Luckily I ha...

Interesting problem, moving hibernating ants!

Hello AC fam, its been a while since I've posted or poked around. I guess I'm used to little activity during hibernation season. Anyways, I currently have my colony hibernating at my dads house in a small fridge in the ballpark of 8-15C. I've recently moved out and as we get closer to spring, I worr...

Re: how long does it take for fire ant eggs to become fire ants

I got a fire ant queen on June 19 but no ants still how long does it take? Hello, it can normally take a month to a month and half. Solenopsis is a very aggressive and fast growing species so they should take off soon. Has your queen shed her wings? Do you see any eggs? I would try to leave her alo...

Re: Soon to be Arizona GAN farmer

Anyone from Arizona that would be interested in springtime. I plan to have queens to sell by Early March at the soonest I hope, but some depending on the species might want to give them a few months to whip up some niantics. So anyone in Arizona, I'm in the phoenix area and willing to travel lets s...

Re: Switching test tubes

Thanks for the reassurance. Most of my worry comes from all the failures I've had in the past. I guess I'm just getting tired of getting attached to an awesome specie or colony only to have fate and unfortunate mishaps occur. Thanks for the reassurance though, check out my other post about this enor...

In awe at the size of this lass, absolute UNIT

I'm sorry ACFAM, I haven't shared with you enough about my Camponotus Laevigatus queen who is one of the largest gals I've ever seen. Last year when I was catching them I was almost intimidated by the size, and there FAST, the workers are VERY FAST. But anyways this girl is in the ballpark of 22-24M...

Switching test tubes

I'm sure I've made a post about something similar to this in the past. However, some aspects are different now. I have a Camponotus Laevigatus queen and she has had her first workers and is on her first full year with me(caught last May). She's an absolute UNIT, and is very special to me. Her test t...
