Ant hibernation
I know it’s not near hibernation time yet, but I’m wondering if I could put my c.novaeboracensis right into the fridge for hibernation, or if I have to make it colder day by day like outside

Re: Want to start keeping ants
In my opinion any camponotus sp. would work. They are not escape artist, there slow growing and are very big so it’s easy to get a good look at them! I have been any keeping for one year now and my first ant colony was camponotus, I still have them all of course and they are found very well.

Re: AntsinMB’s Formica subsericea journal
Update #1
July 18
I took a look on the queens yesterday and…. It looked as though the queens had doubled in eggs! I also noticed that most of the queens are now hanging out on the cotton plug blocking the water, (except for threee.)

AntsinMB’s Formica subsericea journal
4 days ago (July 11), I put 14 queens of the species Formica subsericea into the same test tube knowing they were polygynous. Two days later (July 13), I checked on them and they had around 35 or so eggs! It was so cool. A few queens had shedded there wings and put them in neat pile, meanwhile other...

I have also decided that I’m going to make the journal on a different thread.

Re: Queen Formica subsericea
I’m actually fine with that as the queens that will be killed off will most likely be the ones that I think are unfertilized

Queen Formica subsericea
Hi every one, so 4 Days ago I caught 6 Formica subsericea queens then the next day I caught 7 and the next 1. After catching these queens I decided to put them all together in one test tube set up, as they are a polygynous species of ant. 2 days later and a few queens have shedded their wings and pu...
