Help Needed with Ant's Identification

Hello, my name is Adam and I have recently caught an ant. I am unsure of the species and if it is a queen or not. I found her on 8/5/22 at 3:48 pm in Ohio. At that time I was in my backyard which has a large amount of trees a little bit away. She has a spade shaped black head, a dark orange thorax, ...

Re: I don't know what to do, my queen is having problems.

The other night I was checking on my queen and I was going to feed her a cricket leg, but I see her laying on the floor of the test tube, limp. I wiggle the tube around to see if she is just sleeping, but she doesn't move even a little bit. So I unplug the tube and slide her onto my hand and I find...

Re: I don't know what to do, my queen is having problems.

Hm. Yeah I wouldn't recommend meat in general. Not to say it's super bad since the fire ants of AntsCanada are eating raw chicken that has been out in the open for days and smelled rotten and bad and all sorts of things, but if you can avoid it, avoid it. ^^ Ants probably prefer other insects over ...

Re: I don't know what to do, my queen is having problems.

I have been keeping her in my desk drawer which has no large gaps so it is nice and dark. I have been feeding her cooked pieces of meat and sugarwater (1 part sugar to 7 parts water) every 4 days, alternating between the two. In your desk drawer? Seems a bit of the wrong spot for me unless you neve...

Re: I don't know what to do, my queen is having problems.

This is definetly stress, this is what you must do: 1. Put two or three tiny drops of honeywater or sugarwater. 2. Put a black paper or red cellophane around the test tube, then a clothe or rag on top of the test tube. 3. Put the queen in a ventilated and quiet place, there must not be vibrations o...

I don't know what to do, my queen is having problems.

I woke up yesterday to grave news, my first, and only, worker had died. My queen is Lasius Neoniger, but she had stopped laying many eggs a while ago, and the eggs ended up scattered around the test tube. I found her June 27, and set her up in a test tube with the cotton ball and water. She laid egg...
