Ant ID
Hi, I caught a large queen ant about two months ago, it was mostly black but there was a bit of reddish color near the region where the thorax joins with the abdomen. It just recently hatched two workers, both with yellow thoraxes. What is it?

Ok i caught 8 queens yesterday and 1 today, 0 idea what species they are and 8 still have wings but fell in a pool

From your description, it sounds like a red carpenter ant. The linki s not working though, so maybe i am inaccurate.

UPDATE- got a second one, around Denver. Same area as the other one. This one looks almost dead though, I doubt it will survive long.

Actually I just caught a tetramorium queen. It is currentally in a test tube setup.

I saw a dead ant queen in a pool, looked like a tetramorium.
