Need help with an ant quandary!

So several weeks back I caught two ant queens in my backyard, and I.D.'ed them as Camponotus queens. Here's the backstory on all of that: http://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5689 In that last post, I said things get complicated if they lay eggs. Well, I forgot that box even existed for ...

Caught 2 Queens! Back in the game!

It's been a loooong time since I last posted on this forum, or even thought about ants, but a golden opportunity presented itself last evening. I was out watering some of the plants in the back yard, when I noticed something crawling on the patio. An ant queen! I went inside, quickly grabbed a jar, ...

MOLD CRISIS!

I put a banana slice in my ant hill a few days ago, and now it is EXPLODING with mold! What should I do? I can't reach it, and I know the mold will only get worse! Will it hurt my ants in a huge open space? Will they eat the mold? I don't want to lose ants! :o :o :o

Re: Harvester Ant Farm!

No, because they are growing outside of the ant hill, not inside. I also haven't done any updates because things have kinda stayed pretty samey!

Re: Harvester Ant Farm!

Days 8 & 9 Have been the site of a LOT of progress! I have yet to see the ants cut down more stalks of the plants, maybe it's because the plants CONTINUE to grow! :o i'm just in shock that these plants have grown in the bottom of my little ant hill! What is good about these plants though, is that th...

This is so cool! I hope to raise a colony like this next spring when I go looking for queens. I wish you the best of luck!

Re: Harvester Ant Farm!

I missed day 3 in the last explanation, just wanted to confirm that's a typo. Day 7 is finally here!! One week of my little ant colony! I think it's fitting that the most startling development happened on their on week anniversary. What is this startling development you ask? It is that my ants have ...

What kind of queen is she? Some queens can take egg laying breaks for up to 3 months.

Re: "Natural Nest"? A noob needs help!!!

I think uncle Milton farms connected is not a good idea because of that u can't hydrate the nest... I think u should be able to do this... Do you mean not be able to provide water to the ants, or provide a hydration gradient? You could put a test tube of water in one of the outworlds for water, but...

Re: "Natural Nest"? A noob needs help!!!

A few bits of advice, firstly about a natural formicarium. If you REALLY want a dirt formicarium, you're better off buying one of the old fashioned dirt ant farms, and linking a couple together or something like that. But I would advise against a dirt formicarium for many reasons. The first and most...
