The queens generally have a flat thorax. It’s hard to tell tho.

MY NYBRID NEST IS FINALLY HERE!!!

I JUST GOT MY HYBRID NEST YESTERDAY!!! It was a little smaller than i thought but it was of really good quality.

Queen looks fat and healthy. Trying to make sure the temperature is ideal for her. Kinda hard cause the shed is kind of open-air.

A heat pad works well. However, you should carful before you risk it. It is better for a queen to be below her ideal temperature than above.

Most of the carpenter ants i caught or seen have wings. It doesn’t mean she is infertile. Many winged queen have raised many successful colonies while many queens without wings have been known to be infertile.
It’s like a 50-50.

Nope. They both lay about the same amount. Most of the eggs might be infertile and would never hatch. Don’t be alarmed tho. This is normal. That’s okay. The longer without checking the better, but checking once a week is good enough. :D
