But don't they need to be kept with the colony so they can get fed? How I have the setup. It's going to be near impossible to fish them all out.

Hey, my camp pens colony that I collected this last winter also had elates. I tried to watch when they would go to nuptial flight but I guess I missed it. Now there are multiple queens running around without wings. There are still some elates in there as well. What should I do?

Yeah, been off for a while myself. Literally the day I was going to pull the jar out they decided to move in. They are laying brood and the first pupate are forming.

Thank you. It was a pain to get the log sized down right enough. It would actually be the same tree that they would have originally come in. A guy had dropped a few logs off last year and I guess that's how they came to be. I still wouldn't doubt if I find more groups of them.

The mesh is for a screen door fix. They are quite fixed on trying to get through

My colony of c pennsylvanicus jumps into action once it starts warming up. Once I finish making their new home I will put them in the basement for more consistent cold temp.
