Re: What do you feed your ants in general

.. for sugar, I generally provide them with a test tube of sugar water connect to their hybrid nest and I will also give them whatever sugar I have laying around (Honey, maple syrup, apple sauce) My colony is tetramorium and has 100-200 workers. Re: What do you feed your ants in general

That's a lot of food for a small colony. They eat that all up in a day?

I feed mine:
distilled water
honey water (1 part honey, 4 parts water)
frozen fruit flies

I tried feeding cut up mealworms but they seem to prefer the fruit flies

Re: Proper teperature and looking after for ants in hibernation?

Thats quite scary then... i will move them from their test tubes into a new sterile container then, to lower the chances of a mold outbreak. Ack! No, anytime you move them it is stressful and you risk killing them. If you have them in a test tube setup and there is no mold yet, you should leave the...

Re: Proper teperature and looking after for ants in hibernation?

I hibernate mine at about 8-10C in a beer fridge. I check on them about once a week to make sure not tubes are out of water. Other than that, nothing else to do really. Okay... but when they actually get out of water, how do you organize the move for them in the hibernation? Well, it's best to ensu...

Re: Glass test tubes

Glass test tubes.. I cant do online shopping so what would be my best bet on finding Glass test tubes in a comin retail store in Canada B.C ? You may find a science store locally that sells them. Otherwise you can try getting water picks from a local florist shop. I'd recommend plastic instead of g...
